Maybe fortune cookies are valid :) Just this week I broke open a fortune cookie and it read "If you want to win anything - a race, your self, your life - you have to go a little berserk." Upon reading this fortune I just chuckled to myself, this could be so true.
On August 11 when I decided to sign up for the 5K race in Glastonbury, race day felt so far away. I thought to myself "how am I EVER going to train to run three miles in a month. I have never ran a day in my life and enjoyed it, why would I ever want to sign up to run a race". How ever inexperienced I felt at that time the determination and craziness about me was more powerful then the uncertainty. You might say "I went a little berserk". But boy I am glad that I took that leap and made a choice.
Race day is next Sunday at 10am and I have never felt more determined. This past week I was able to run 3 miles on two different days and I was able to keep pace for approximately 40 minutes each time. I remember looking back, with the help of my boyfriend, on the first few weeks I tried running and I barely could run a mile. When I tried to do 2 miles I had to walk in between. I also felt like I couldn't survive more then 20 minutes of run/walk exercise. But now I am extremely happy to say that I have run for 40 minutes with out stopping and I have completed 3 miles more then once.
So maybe the fortune cookie phrase is right, we do need to "go a little berserk" to accomplish great things whether its a race or your life, determination and believing in yourself is the only way it will happen.
Regardless of the scale, by doing this healthy challenge I have learned a lot so far about myself and about how my body works. To think I learned all this in less then eight weeks, what will I be able to learn about myself in 52 weeks? Even if the scale doesn't say I'm losing weight, my body has become healthier in other ways.
In closing, think about ways that you can "GO A LITTLE BERSERK" in your life and see all the doors that can open and all the tasks you can accomplish! :)
Good luck Sarah! I know you'll achieve your goal! I just started weight watchers at work and in the first week I am down 4.4 pounds, so I will be going through it with you. I will check on your progress and keep you posted! Best wishes!

Just keeping a positive attitude can get you a lot farther then anyone would ever expect. I have always said you could do whatever to set your mind to do.
