Looking back on my first 5K it was a great learning experience. The organization was for a great cause and it was awesome to look around and see everyone supporting their family and friends. But it also seemed to be a little disorganized. I preregistered and went to sign in, we received a long sleeve t-shirt and I thought we were going to get a "goodie" bag with items from community businesses because that is what was advertised but we did not. The race was suppose to start at 10am, which I thought was late to begin with and then when we were waiting 10am came and went and the race didn't start. Around 10:15am the event organizer started speaking and told everyone we would get started around 10:30am and that she had a few speakers that would be sharing their stories before hand. At this point my excitement was fading and I just wanted to get started. Finally it was time to line up and while this was happening they said we would be running on the sidewalks and to please stay off the roads. Then off we went on what was said to be a flat course with one incline at the end. What LIARS! They obviously never ran the course before, even though this was the 4th annual run/walk for this event. We started running down hill and then we turned on to multiple rolling streets. One person running near me was talking to her partner and said "I thought the course was flat?" as I was thinking the same thing to myself.
Moving on to the positive race experiences. The weeks leading up to the race I worried about being the last runner or not being able to make it the whole way. While running today though and realizing my fear of being last was coming true I also realized that it doesn't matter because I am doing this race for me. I will finish while running the whole way and be proud of myself for following through. It was also helpful when everyone on the course shared their encouraging words, it made it that much easier to keep going.
In the end I FINISHED my first 5K and want to continue running! :)
That's the way to keep the positive attitude..... GREAT JOB
